Home Insurance claim partially denied

Lack of Communication

An insured called on our services when he made a claim after a fire.

After listing all of the items lost, the insured realized that the total loss exceeded the $63,000 policy limit. He also learned at that time that the $27,000 bill from the contractor would be deducted from the limit.

Nobody had taken the time to explain to him that these costs would come out of the $63,000 limit. He also was not given the chance to inspect and inventory his belongings before they were moved.

After listening to the insured, we contacted the insurer to explain that its client had not been properly informed and had not had the chance to inspect his property.

After several discussions, the insurer accepted our recommendations and agreed to grant the insured the full limit with no deductions. The insurer acknowledged that there had been a lack of communication.
