Why Was This Young Driver Paying So Much?

A young New Brunswick driver contacted our office after noticing that his automobile insurance premiums seemed unusually high. He had several years of driving experience, a clean driving record, and had successfully completed an accredited driver training course. Despite meeting all the criteria for lower premiums, he was still paying significantly more than expected.

Concerned that something wasn't quite right, we reviewed his policy and compared it against the obligations under the Regulation, which all automobile insurers operating in the province are required to follow.

After identifying a potential issue, we contacted the insurer and requested additional information. The inquiry prompted a detailed review of the file, which revealed that the driver had not been receiving the premium reduction he was entitled to under the regulation.

Once the error was identified, the insurer acted quickly to correct it. The policy was adjusted, a credit was applied to compensate for the overcharged premiums, and future payments were recalculated using the proper rate.

The outcome was a tremendous relief for the consumer. Not only did he receive money back, but he could also enjoy the benefits of his safe driving habits and training without paying more than he should have.

Sometimes a second look can make all the difference. If something about your insurance doesn't seem right, don't assume it can't be questioned.
