Uninsured motorist

A consumer purchased a vehicle but had not yet obtained insurance. After being towed to a repair shop for roadworthiness repairs, the vehicle was struck while parked on the shop’s lot.

When the consumer contacted the at-fault driver’s insurer, he was told they would not consider the claim unless he first took legal action against their insured. This approach was unreasonable, created unnecessary hardship for both the consumer and their own insured, and appeared inconsistent with normal industry practices.

Following our intervention, the insurer agreed to deal directly with the consumer, avoiding costly and unnecessary legal proceedings and allowing the claim to be resolved fairly and efficiently.
