Rules must be followed for a cancellation to be valid

A homeowner received a policy cancellation notice more than three months after the insurance policy had taken effect.

Upon review, we determined that the insurer had not complied with the cancellation requirements set out in the Insurance Act.

We promptly identified the procedural error, referenced the applicable legislative provisions, and contacted the insurer to address the issue.

Following our intervention, the insurer acknowledged the oversight and quickly withdrew the cancellation notice, allowing the homeowner's coverage to remain in force without interruption.
