Paying for Coverage You Can't Use

A consumer contacted our office after discovering that he had continued paying significant premiums for private health insurance for several years, unaware that many of the policy's core benefits were no longer available once he reached age 65.

After a claim brought the issue to light, he sought clarification and requested a review. While awaiting answers, premiums continued to be deducted and he struggled to obtain a resolution.

Following our involvement, the insurer promptly reviewed the matter and agreed to refund all premiums paid for the coverage over the past several years.

A good reminder to periodically review health insurance plans, as eligibility rules and coverage can change over time.
