Cancellation for non-payment

The consumer’s policy was cancelled for non-payment, despite their proactive effort to arrange a payment plan with their agent a month in advance. At the time, no options or alternatives were presented to help the consumer manage or defer the upcoming payment, ultimately resulting in the cancellation of the policy.

Upon review, the insurer acknowledged that accommodations could have been made to support the consumer and potentially avoid the cancellation. As a result, they agreed to remove the non-payment cancellation from the consumer’s record, allowing her to secure coverage in the standard insurance market without penalty.

A cancellation for non-payment can have serious and lasting consequences for an insured individual, often leading to significantly higher premiums and reduced access to affordable coverage. In this case, correcting the record helped prevent those negative impacts and restored the consumer’s ability to obtain insurance under normal conditions.
